VOLBEAT Singer: We Are 'Proud' To Be Supporting METALLICA In Denmark
April 11, 2007Danish metal band VOLBEAT has commented on its upcoming appearance as the support band for METALLICA on July 13 in Århus, Denmark. Also appearing on the bill is MNEMIC.
Says VOLBEAT singer Michael Poulsen: "METALLICA has been a big influence for me as a songwritter for many years, and still are, and we are all in the band big METALLICA fans. We are very happy and thankful and proud of this chance, and we are looking forward to play our guts out. Our friends in MNEMIC will also be on stage that night."
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich issued an Easter greeting in Danish, announcing that METALLICA had "decided to make our Århus day to be of a Danish enterprise... drumroll please... We have actually asked the awesome Danish bands VOLBEAT and MNEMIC to be a part of the event on the 13th of July, and they both freakin' said, 'Yes please!' so, game on and all the good stuff! It's going to be a pure Danish enterprise. Well, yeah, fuck it, 'TALLICA is only one-fourth Danish, but let us celebrate our Danish-ness, where and whenever we can, especially when we aren't home that much. With other words, here is the short version: I am happy to be able to announce that VOLBEAT and MNEMIC will make the METALLICA show in Århus the 13th of July as Danish as possible."
VOLBEAT's sophomore album, "Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil", recently entered the Danish national chart at position No. 1. According to a posting on the group's web site, the CD has already sold more than 10,000 copies in the band's home country.
The "Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil" CD can be previewed in its entirety at MTVDanmark.com. The follow-up to last year's "The Strength, The Sound, The Songs" was recorded at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark.
VOLBEAT recently announced the addition of guitarist Thomas Bredahl from the punk rock combo GOB SQUAD to the group's ranks. GOB SQUAD supported VOLBEAT on their Danish tour in 2006.
"The Strength, The Sound, The Songs" last year became the first Danish heavy rock release in over 10 years to break the national Top 20.
